Why Louisiana Special Education Add-On Program?

Special Education Students Need Dedicated Teachers

The state of Louisiana has a critical need for Special Education teachers. Special Education teachers work in many different settings to meet the personal needs of students with disabilities. Some Special Education teachers provide support in a general education classroom, some work as a lead teacher and others work one-on-one with students. Regardless of the setting, Special Education teachers ensure that some of Louisiana’s most vulnerable students have equitable educational experiences.

The Louisiana Special Education Add-On program is a year-long, virtual professional development program that offers certified general education teachers in Louisiana a pathway to receiving a Special Education certification. Participants complete a virtual summer program and online coursework during the school year supplemented with coaching and development sessions.
