How to Take Praxis Diagnostic Exams

As you know, passing your required exams is a major milestone on your journey to becoming an educator. Regardless of the subject you teach, there will be math covered in the tests you're required to take. Since Fellows often struggle with the Praxis math exams, we offer online, self-paced test prep courses for the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators Mathematics (5732) and, if applicable, Praxis II Mathematics Content Knowledge (5161).

It's important that you start preparing for exams right away. The online courses are available on a rolling basis throughout enrollment, but you should begin preparing now to increase your chances of passing your exams the first time.

Take the following steps within one week of enrolling.

First, Prepare to take the Diagnostic(s)

  • Watch THIS VIDEO for a quick tutorial on how to complete the diagnostic exam.
  • Register for a free account with Teachers Test Prep.
  • Login to your account.

SECOND, TAKE THE DIAGNOSTIC(S) AND REPORT THE RESULTS

  • If you're studying for the math portion of the Praxis Core take this diagnostic on Teachers Test Prep following the instructions in the video. Note: the name of this test is Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators: Mathematics (5732). Once you've finished the test, use the diagnostic information provided to complete this Google Form.
  • If you're studying to teach secondary math or middle school math you must also take this diagnostic on Teachers Test Prep following the instructions in the video. Note: the name of this test is Praxis Mathematics Content Knowledge (5161). Once you've finished the test, use the diagnostic information provided to complete this Google Form.

REMEMBER

  • You may only take each test once, so take your time and make sure you have a calculator and paper and pencil handy.
  • To see the percentage of questions you answered correct, check your account and email.

Finally, register for the Praxis Course

  • We’ll contact you within 48 business hours with next steps. If you do not pass the diagnostic exam, you are required to take our four-week, self-paced online Praxis prep course. If you do pass the diagnostic and you would still like to take the course, you are welcome do that.
  • Mark this step complete in your enrollment checklist.

There are limited testing opportunities before the start of training, so we strongly encourage you to register for the Praxis test immediately so you'll be able to take the test soon after finishing the online prep course.
