Finding a Teaching Position

At the end of the summer training, RootsLA will help you find a position that’s right for you, so that both you and your principal feel good about the match. Our staff will offer resources, support and guidance, but all hiring decisions are made by principals or other school-based administrators.

RootsLA will help you navigate the school hiring process by connecting you with our network of principals. Our team will host job-search workshops, set up mock-interviews, and provide résumé and cover letter support.

During your senior year, you will have multiple options to engage with your new school team before you begin teaching the following year, such as participating in school social events, volunteering in the classroom, meeting students, and more.

Salary and Benefits

As a full-time employee of the district or network that hires you, you will earn the same starting salary as other first-year teachers in that district, which ranges from $48,000-$55,000.

You will also be able to access the same comprehensive benefits as all new teachers in your district, including medical, dental, and vision and life insurance coverage. 

LOAN FORGIVENESS

New teachers who join high-need schools may be eligible for Stafford and Perkins student loan deferment or forgiveness. For details, please contact your loan provider directly or visit the Federal Student Aid website.
